Effective [[EFFECTIVE DATE]]
Everything stays on this Mac. Makitro has no account, no cloud, no analytics and no remote processing. This page lists exactly what the app stores, the two network connections that exist around it, and what happens when you buy Makitro Pro.
Makitro is made by [[LEGAL NAME]] ("we"), [[POSTAL ADDRESS]]. Questions: [email protected].
The short version
- Your clipboard history, picked colors and settings are stored only on your Mac. They're never uploaded, synced, shared or logged.
- The app makes one kind of network request: an update check, and only after you allow it.
- The Pro license is checked offline. It's stored in your Mac's Keychain and never sent anywhere.
- This website has no cookies, no analytics and no trackers.
- If you buy Pro, Paddle handles the payment as merchant of record, and we keep your email so we can send and re-send your license.
What the app stores on your Mac
Clipboard History
- Text and links you copy, in full, in
~/Library/Application Support/com.makitro.Makitro/clipboard.sqlite. Kept until you delete them or the history limit trims them (500 unpinned items by default). - Images you copy, re-encoded as PNG with metadata removed (EXIF, GPS, camera and text metadata dropped), plus a small thumbnail. Up to the 50 newest unpinned images, and you can turn "Save images" off.
- Per item: the kind (text, link, image), when it was first and last copied, how many times, whether it's pinned, a SHA-256 fingerprint used to spot duplicates, and the app it probably came from.
- The folder is readable only by your macOS user and is excluded from Time Machine. The database isn't encrypted by Makitro; FileVault protects it at rest.
Never recorded
- Copies that apps mark as private, such as passwords from password managers. They're skipped before their content is read.
- Anything copied while history is paused or off, or from an app you've excluded.
- Files, PDFs, very large text (over about 200,000 characters) and very large images (over 25 megapixels or 30 MB).
Everything else
- Preferences (which tools are on, shortcuts, history limit, color format, excluded apps, window position) in
~/Library/Preferences/com.makitro.Makitro.plist. - Color Picker: only the last color, in memory. A color you copy is an ordinary copy, so it appears in clipboard history if history is on. The picker doesn't use Screen Recording.
- Scroll Reverser: scroll events are changed in memory, one at a time, and never stored.
- Makitro Pro license: the license token and the email it was issued to, in your login Keychain. They stay on your Mac and are never sent anywhere.
Network connections
Update checks
Makitro uses Sparkle, the standard open-source updater for Mac apps. It asks you before it checks for updates automatically, and you can check by hand or turn checks off at any time.
A check downloads https://makitro.mdali.dev/appcast.xml and nothing else. It sends no clipboard data, no settings and no identifiers: only a standard web request, whose User-Agent includes the app's name and version. Like every web request, it reveals your IP address to the server (Cloudflare, see below). Sparkle's optional system-profile reporting is off. When you install an update, the new version is downloaded from the URL listed in that file.
License check
There isn't one on the network. Makitro verifies a Pro license with a cryptographic signature check on your Mac, so it works offline and we never learn when or where you use it.
Nothing else
Makitro doesn't contact any other server. You can confirm this with a network monitor such as Little Snitch or LuLu. Links you open from the app (this website, the purchase page) open in your browser.
Permissions
Makitro asks for a macOS permission only when you turn on the tool that needs it, and explains why first.
- Accessibility, for Scroll Reverser, to change scroll direction for your mouse. Used only while Scroll Reverser is on. Upcoming tools (Window Management, Keyboard Cleaning) will also ask for it when you turn them on.
- Login items, only if you turn on "Open at login".
Deleting your data
- Delete single items, or use Clear History to remove unpinned items or everything.
- General › Privacy & data › Delete All… removes every item, pinned ones and images included. Deleted content is overwritten inside the database.
- Remove a Pro license in Makitro › Makitro Pro. This deletes it from the Keychain.
- To uninstall, quit Makitro, move it to the Trash, and delete
~/Library/Application Support/com.makitro.Makitro/and~/Library/Preferences/com.makitro.Makitro.plist.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no fonts or scripts from other companies. The one exception is the checkout script from Paddle, which loads only on the pricing page and only when sales are open.
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes your IP address and standard request data to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse. We don't add logging or analytics on top.
- The app download is served by GitHub Releases, under GitHub's privacy statement.
- The activation page reads your license from the part of the link after
#, which browsers never send to servers, and passes it to the app without sending it anywhere.
Buying Makitro Pro
- Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd and its affiliates) is our reseller and merchant of record. Paddle collects your name, email, country, payment details and tax information, processes the payment, and handles invoices, tax and refunds, under Paddle's privacy policy. We never see your card details.
- From Paddle we receive the transaction id, your email address and the purchase details. Our license server (a Cloudflare Worker) uses them to create your license, then stores the email, transaction id, license and refund status in Cloudflare's storage so we can re-send it.
- The license email is sent through Resend, an email delivery service.
- "Lost your license?" form: the address you enter is used only to look up and re-send your license. To prevent abuse, the server remembers that an address asked for about 10 minutes. The page shows the same message whether or not the address bought Pro.
- We keep license records for as long as you might need the license re-sent, and as long as tax and accounting rules require. You can ask us to delete yours; keep your own copy of the license first, because offline licenses keep working but can't be re-sent once deleted.
- The legal basis for this processing is performing our contract with you (delivering the license) and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
Support email
If you email us, we use your message and address only to help you. Please don't send clipboard contents or screenshots containing private data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law), you can ask to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, or object to its use. The only personal data we hold is the license record and any emails you send us. Write to [email protected]. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. We don't sell or share personal data for advertising.
Children
Makitro isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If what Makitro stores or sends changes, we'll update this page and the date above before the change ships, and describe it in the release notes.
